  • How should I prepare for my sharpening visit? To help us get straight to work and give your gear the best possible safety and finish, we ask that you do a little bit of prep before we handle your gear:
    • The Towel Wrap: If you are bringing your knives out to our vehicle or taking them into town to meet up with our cutlers, wrap them safely in a towel. Lay them flat on a towel, landscape style. Fold the long edge of the towel right over the pointy ends, then roll it up tight from one end. Secure it firmly with tape or string. This gives us a nice, secure wrap to place them straight back into once the knives are sharp. Please don’t just chuck them all loose into a bag altogether!
    • Clean your knives: For home or business call-outs, ensure kitchen knives are washed clean of food residue. Hunters and farmers, please make sure hunting knives are completely free of fat, blood, and hair before handover.
    • Degrease your tools: Wipe down any sticky grease, dirt, and mud from workshop or garden gear.
    • Remove mower blades: If you want robot and mower blades sharpened, you must unbolt and remove them from the mower yourself before we arrive. (We can help you out with this but remember time is money so there might be extra cost).
  • When are you available? We operate 5 days a week, generally Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Because we work completely outside, we are always keeping a sharp eye on the forecast. If it is tracking to be raining inclement weather, we will give you a heads-up and postpone your booking to the next best clear day. We also do market days on weekends, so keep an eye out for us at your local community spots!
  • I only have 1 or 2 items to sharpen—how can I find you, and can I get them done today? Give us a ring! Because we operate a mobile office, you never know where we might be—we could be right around the corner from you, or we could be 100kms away on another job. If you only have a couple of things and don’t hit our regular call-out minimum, give us a phone call and we can easily arrange to meet up somewhere in town while we are in your area. We also set up at markets and specific spots on set days, so be sure to check the location web pages to see where Lance and Ella set up every week!
  • I have some old scissors—can they be sharpened? Too right they can! We have sharpened scissors that are over 100 years old. It really just depends on the overall state they are in and what exactly you want to use them for. Older tools were built to last out of high-quality steel, so don’t toss them into the back of a drawer just because they are currently chewing through fabric. Give us a ring, and we will use our specialized Swedish scissor jigs to lock in the exact angle and gently restore that smooth slice from the pivot to the very tip.
  • Should I call, text, or email you? Phoning is always best during the day. When we are out on the job working, talking on the phone is much faster and gets more information across than texting or emailing. We can always hear the phone ringing, but we will completely miss the beep of a text /email message over the whirr of steel being sharpened on the machine! If it is after hours or you just want to send through a quick question, sure flick us an email or text.
  • How do I pay? We keep it easy. We carry a mobile Eftpos terminal and accept Eftpos, Visa, MasterCard, internet banking or cold hard cash right on the spot once the job is sorted.
  • What do you need if you come to sharpen at my place? We are completely self-sufficient. All we need is a flat place to park up so we can open up the sides of the vehicle, and we are in business. If you happen to have a standard power point handy that we can plug into, that’s great too, but we can manage without it.
  • How long will it take? We work efficiently to get you sorted fast. We can usually sharpen about 10 to 15 decent-sized knives per hour, and it’s a similar speed for scissors and garden tools. Most household or business jobs are completely wrapped up in just 1 or 2 hours.
  • My knives are chipped or have broken tips—should I just throw them out? Definitely not! Don’t bin them. We can regrind, reshape, sharpen, and hone those broken edges back to brand new. Your knife will just be a little bit shorter after it has had the Mister Sharp treatment, but it will cut like a dream.
  • I have old, rusty tools and knives—is it worth sharpening them? Too right it is. Don’t throw them out! Older tools often feature much better quality steel than the disposable gear you buy on the shelves today. If you’re unsure if it can be sharpened, we are happy to take a look, offer some honest advice, and give you a clear quote before we start grinding.
